I'm just like Sciraddo, I bought a GTi!! I finally found ther winter/autoX beater I was looking for. Here's my post from Dubberz.
Well my pursuit for a winterbeater/autocross beater has finally come to an end! I was out driving around with the g/f a few weekends ago and we spotted an 84' Gti sitting in someone's front yard, covered with a tarp and all covered with moss and other types of greenery. I was stoked; her and I occasionally go for drives, she looks at the houses and yards, I look for the special little easter eggs hiding in the yards, such as old cars and trucks, especially VWs. So finding this made my day. Anyways, Lana being the supportive girlfriend she is, told me I should go ask if it's for sale. At the time I was broke, and feeling pretty nutsty about it, so, I said maybe another day...
Well today, after snaking an awesome deal on some MK1 parts at Pick-A-part in Chilliwack, I decided to swing by the house with the GTi. There it was, still covered in green nastiness. I went and knocked on the door, and sure enough, they wanted to get rid of it. Sweet! So I went and poked around, Neuspeed springs, new shocks and strut mounts, Neuspeed throttle body, 2-1/4" Exhaust, perfect seats, perfect dash, euro bumpers and minimal rust. I tried starting it, battery was toast, swapped the one out of my Rocco in, nothing but a click from the starter. Hmmm MK1 bad grounds? Most likely... So after standing in the cold I decided to place on offer. They were asking $900 but because it won't start and needs aircare I said "How about $500?" I was expecting a big fat no. Well sure enough $ 500, no problem. I feel like the luckiest man alive right now.
Cheers
Tyler
PS I'll post pics as soon as I get er home.
I'm so excited!! Christmas has come early for Tyler! I was hoping for a Scirocco, but apparently they are extinct LOL Anyways, this will have to do. It'll keep the salt off my more important car haha!
